Gender Talents
Gender Talents explores the landscape of self-determined gender through the lenses of art and architecture. It builds off the work of progressive sexologist Esben Esther P. Benestad, who has observed seven distinct genders in their practice as a therapist in Norway. Three outstanding voices in contemporary art and architecture reflect on these seven themes, intersecting gender with notions of race, sexuality, desire and the built environment. Kimberly R Drew couples each gender with the work of a contemporary black artist, ruminating on the intersections through seven sharp texts. Juliana Huxtable contributes seven decrees which bleed in to harrowing poetics from a sentient, omniscient narrator. Andreas Angelidakis works through seven material metaphors, pairing each gender with a building or chair.
