A New Pantheon

Born and raised in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, Bhatt pays homage to three ancient Indian deities who “short circuit between pixels genders bodies and edges.” The accompanying text situates these figures in a context that mocks today’s sense of what is socially progressive, reflecting back on how conservative post-colonial society is by showing examples of “radical” ideas that were not only tolerated but worshiped thousands of years ago.
